The Assessment Committee of NYIT's Academic Senate defines "Student Learning Outcome Assessment" as:

"The intentional identification, collection, analysis, and use of data to improve teaching and learning."

NYIT's student learning assessment practices are designed to meet the relevant standard set by its regional accrediting agency, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education:

"Assessment of student learning demonstrates that, at graduation, or other appropriate points, the institution's students have knowledge, skills, and competencies consistent with institutional and appropriate higher education goals."
