The Workday implementation project has an overall 18-month timeline, which began in January 2024. The project is structured into phases: Mobilization and Planning, Architecture and Configuration, Testing, and Deployment, followed by a period of Hypercare and Stabilization.
Mobilization and Planning Phase
The Mobilization and Planning phase launches the project and develops the roadmap that guides the rest of the project. During this phase the team completes the following key activities:
- Refines and confirms business requirements and project scope.
- Develops the project charter and guiding principles.
- Implements a project governance structure and decision-making.
- DDevelops a detailed work plan.
- Assigns project roles and responsibilities.
- Begins training the team on the new software solution.
- Develops a stakeholder engagement plan.
The Architect and Configure Phase
The Architect and Configure phase is where the future state is designed and configured. This includes the design and configuration of business processes, reports, security roles, and integrations. In addition, the team will be focused on developing processes to convert of legacy data to the new system.
Testing Phase
The Testing phase represents a critical point in the project where the team validates the overall system design through rigorous testing. There are several types of testing:
- End-to-End Testing
- Payroll Parallel Testing
- Regression Testing
- User Acceptance Testing
Deploy Phase
The Deploy phase focuses on pre-implementation readiness, the final build of the production system, and migration of legacy data to the new system. Importantly, this is also the phase when end-user training takes place.
